A Gift to Debbie

This story is the culmination of several years of observation Debbie, who would occasionally drive her friend to our clinic for her appointment. Since we were in this area, my husband and I do not know about Debbie is a tragic story that is, until now, legendary in our little town. In September 1991, Debbie's oldest son, Anthony, a fishing pier in rough waters on Lake Michigan, when a wave swept away and not found until a week later. He was seventeen.

One day she came to see us as a patient, it looks even worse than I ever remembered. I was forced to ask what was wrong as she sat in the waiting room looks very small and watery eyes. She replied that the day before the anniversary of his son Anthony's death, and always excruciatingly painful time for her. In fact, all holidays, including his birthday, were particularly brutal. Sixteen years after his death, her response to his memory has now become a ritual in nature, including the tomb of vigils sobbing her heart. I sat beside her and holding her hand and asked her if she would accept the gift from me. Blinking through tears, barely able to speak, she nodded: "Yes ".

I began with the painfully obvious, and worked my way forward.

"Even though my entire being can not accept the fact that you're gone, I love and accept who I am, and I honor you for trying to stick with me. " Reminder phrase first round, "I can not believe you're gone, I do not believe", 2 round;. "I'll dishonor their memory, if I let you go, I'm afraid to let go"

"I accept myself even though part of me died with you" reminder phrase, "part of my self is gone forever, did not die alone, mom died too ".

"Although I will never get over the way he died, I chose to be thankful for our time together and celebrate his life" reminder phrase: 1 circle: "I'll never get over how he died, " second round "I'm so thankful you were born, and I will celebrate your life, " "I'm so happy when I'm done. "

with any of these phrases Debbie released a big sigh of relief, and was amazed at how much better it feels, how she was relaxed. We now have unleashed a steady flow of memories, so I followed her lead. She said: "I had this recurring dream every night before they found him. We are both in the water trying to reach each other hand while calling him to me for help --- and no matter how hard I try, I can not come to hand we still have them regularly;. Do I need a day to shake it ".

Out of respect for all my EFT clients who represent different faiths, unless I happen to know that resonates with them, I refrain from using any religious connotation during my sessions. Debbie has a deeply religious Christian.

"Although I could not reach far enough to save you, I believe you took the hand of Jesus, and he certainly ran home." Reminder phrase, "I could not save you, but Jesus did," You are safe in the hands of Jesus, "" you to Jesus, and trusting in the Lord ".

With this round she said she felt elated, and no matter how they tested it, I can not seem to repeat the terrible guilt and grief that I felt for years. "Actually, I feel a flood of warmth wash over me - almost as hot water is poured over my head, and tingling rush of energy all through my hands and feet !"

Now Debbie was crying again but this time with relief. She said that she felt light as a feather and hugged me. And for the first time I saw a smile on his face that was so bright, it's as if the sun comes out from behind the clouds. Her eyes were glistening as she said goodbye and bounded out of the room. Since the next day was the anniversary of the death of her son, I asked her to call me and let me know how it worked.

Instead, the next day was stopped by the clinic on the way home from the cemetery, and had a beautiful smile on her face! Her energies were totally different. She was resilient and optimistic! Debbie happily announced that instead of sitting all day on a blanket on his grave site crying and mourning as was her custom, she took the flowers and balloons and released them as a celebration of his life.

"Thank you heartily for the gift of Dr. Rossanna to me. " This time it was my eyes were streaming with tears. As I tapped in order to regain my composure, I made her promise to periodically check with me as the holidays are approaching.

Shortly before Christmas, I got very animated phone call from Debbie who happily reported that for the first time since Anthony's death she was actually decorated their Christmas tree without obtained by his family. I enjoyed it immensely! Filled with the spirit of Christmas, she even pulled out old ornaments her son Anthony made in school when he was little, and hung them on trees in his honor, because he loved Christmas too. "This Christmas feels so wonderfully different, " she said. "It was always my favorite time of year! "I can not believe how good I feel!" "Merry Christmas to you Dr. Rossanna, God bless you ".

Imagine the enormity of the impact of EFT, illustrated here by providing such a positive and powerful emotional shift on the session which lasted only twenty minutes. After 16 years shackled down to excessive grief as he tried to walk through life, Debbie is now free from the emotional chains that bound her.
